Civic school teacher molests student, held

A 49-year-old teacher at a civic school was arrested on Friday after he allegedly molested a 12-year-old student. The victim has alleged that the teacher had molested several other students at the school.

The Dahisar police said that the accused, Krishna Singh, an English teacher, would be produced before a metropolitan school on Saturday.

The police said that the victim is a Class 6 student at a civic school in the Kajupada area of Borivli (East). The incident allegedly took place on Thursday, after which the victim told her mother, who is a worker in a political party. Her mother approached the Dahisar police, who filed a complaint against Singh under section 354 of the IPC for outraging the modesty of a woman. Singh was then arrested.

In her statement to the police, the victim said that Singh used to make her sit on the last bench, because she was weak in English. He would come to the bench under the pretext of helping her, but would grab her hand and touch her inappropriately.

"The 12-year-old victim has alleged that the accused had similarly molested at least three dozen other girls from her school and she has witnessed him doing that. We will now send a team to the school to make inquiries amongst all students," said an official from the Dahisar police, adding that if more girls complained against Singh, the police would add their statements to the victim's FIR.
