The function was supposed to be a Shiv Sena affair with mayor Shraddha Jadhav gracing the event and Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray as chief guest for the function, while the MRI and CT scan machines were to inaugurated by Congress MP Gurudas Kamat.

However, Thackeray did not turn up for the function Kamat took over, thus giving him a leg up against the Sena, considering the upcoming civic elections.

The event turned into a Congress function, though the institution is run by the BJP-Sena municipal corporation.

The machines cost the BMC Rs 11.3 crore.
