On April 27 last year, Jyothi Korde (27), a resident of Ghoshala Road, killed her three-year-old daughter Siddhi and three-month-old son Sarvesh and set herself ablaze. Her six-year-old daughter, Nisha, survived with minor burn injuries.

Jyothi’s brother, Shankar Gadge, filed a case saying that Jyothi’s husband Dilip (30) and his mother Kamala Bai (60) had forced her to take such an extreme step. The police registered a case of abetment to suicide and harassment against Dilip and Kamala. They were later granted bail.

Nisha told the court that at the time of incident her father was sleeping inside the house while her mother Joythi took her, Siddhi and Sarvesh to the kitchen and closed the door.

Nisha also told the court that Dilip burnt his hands trying to save Jyothi.

When advocate Vijay Shelar cross-examined a neighbour who was brought by the prosecution as witnesses, he told the court that Dilip was helping Jyothi’s family financially.

Shelar argued in the court that there was a considerable delay in filing of the first information report by Jyothi’s brother. Accepting Nisha’s testimony and Shelar’s argument, the court acquitted Dilip and Kamala Bai.
