Father held for killing 3-year-old girl

The police on Thursday night arrested the father of the three-year-old girl who was allegedly strangled at her house in Bhandup. The mother of the girl has also been detained for questioning, said the police.

“The father has been arrested based on suspicion,” said Deputy Commissioner of police (Zone VII) Rajkumar Vhatkar.

The girl was taken to a hospital by her parents on Thursday morning where she was declared dead on arrival.

Initial investigation revealed marks on the girl’s neck and an injury on the back of her head. The girl’s parents, Jannatunisa and Naim Khan, initially denied having any idea as to how she died.

On sustained interrogation, the couple reportedly started blaming each other. The wife told the interrogators that Naim fought with her for having a girl child. They had allegedly fought on Wednesday night and the girl could have been the casualty of their fight.

The police are waiting for the post mortem report that will reveal the time of death. This will help as Naim claims the girl was sleeping when he left for work.
