At 6pm, eight fire engines and eight water tankers were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused within two hours, said the fire department.

No one was hurt in the incident. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Sources said that some children in the locality set a garbage dump located next to the unit on fire and it soon engulfed the unit. Locals helped the fire officials rescue the people inside the factory and control the blaze.

In March, a major fire had engulfed Garib Nagar slums near Bandra (East) station. Hundreds of shanties were burnt to the ground and families rendered homeless.
