Forest official held for accepting bribe

The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested a forest department officer for allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 bribe from a Range Forest Officer on Thursday.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested a forest department officer for allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 bribe from a Range Forest Officer on Thursday.

Shrikant More, an Assistant Account Officer with Directorate of Accounts and Treasury, visited the office of the Conservator of Forest in Yavatmal in December 2009 and found some “irregularities”. More demanded Rs 18,000 from the RFO but it refused to pay.

More contacted the RFO recently and demanded Rs 10,000 to overlook the “irregularities” in the report that he was to prepare, the ACB added.

“We are investigating if money was demanded from other Range Forest Officers too,” Additional Commissioner of Police Niket Kaushik.
