Her home was demolished, her hall ticket lost, but she scored 92.91%

A day before her geometry paper, Siddhika Parekh, 15, found herself without a home. On March 18, at about 6am, Parekh’s building, Sheetal Dhara, in Andheri was demolished by civic authorities because it was dilapidated. Shweta Nair reports.

Left without books and her hall ticket in the middle of the ongoing SSC exams, the RN Shah High School student had to stay with a friend, Ria Bharat, and share her books.

On Wednesday, Parekh was elated to find out she had scored 92.91% in the SSC exams while her friend scored 93.60%.

“I had to leave my home with nothing in hand. My parents were staying at their friend’s place,” said Parekh, who is now living in Daud Bagh in Andheri. Parekh’s tuition class, Mahesh Tutorials, and her school helped her get a duplicate hall ticket, which had to be attested by the police.

“She is amongst the top 10 ranks in our school,” said Pooja Kapur, her school’s principal.

“I am extremely proud of her. She finds geometry tough, but still managed to do well,” said Parekh’s mother, Arpa. Parekh wants to enroll in the commerce stream at Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, Vile Parle.
