BP Gaur, Director General (Investigation), Income Tax, Mumbai, confirmed the searches. More than 100 I-T officials took part in the operation that covered the offices of the company, the residence of the owner, project sites and some other people dealing with the company.
The I-T officials found cash of Rs70 lakh at one of the company’s premises and also sealed 16 lockers belonging to the company and its owner.
The income tax authorities collected documents and computer records during searches.
“We will scrutinise them to check for tax evasion,” an I-T official said on condition of anonymity because of lack of authorisation to talk to the media.
The authorities recorded the statement of the company’s chairman Harresh Mehta late in the night. The searches would continue on Friday.
