The Bhoiwada police arrested Mukhtar Essa Siddiqui on Tuesday evening after his daughter (name withheld to protect identity), a Class 10 student, approached them alleging that he had raped her on Sunday.

The victim told the police that the incident took place around 3am. She said she was asleep at their Bhoiwada home when her father came home at 2.30am. He woke her up and forcibly took her outside the house to the mezzanine floor, where he allegedly raped her, police sources said.

"The victim's mother, who works as a domestic help, followed them. When she tried to stop him, he threatened her," said VB Patil, senior inspector, Bhoiwada police station.

Siddiqui was not under the influence of alcohol, Patil added.

The police said the family delayed registering the case because they were scared. "We have sent the victim for medical tests. We have registered a case of rape and criminal intimidation against Siddiqui," Patil said.
