According to the remand application, Ashwani Kumar Sharma was arrested in Panipat after the CBI traced him through

his phone. CBI said Sharma’s accomplice Rajesh Ranjan had approached Roshan in June and told him the CBI had registered a case against him regarding the film ‘Kites’.

“Sharma then asked for money, telling Roshan if it was not paid then the entire family would be arrested and their residence searched,” a CBI source said.

On August 20, Roshan reported the case to CBI.
