Man run over by BMC dumper, dies

A 32-year-old man was crushed to death when he was run over by a speeding BMC dumper at the busy Mankhurd-Ghatkopar link road on Monday.

A 32-year-old man was crushed to death when he was run over by a speeding BMC dumper at the busy Mankhurd-Ghatkopar link road on Monday.

The deceased, Hitesh Lalachand Jain was riding a scooter with one Suresh Jaiswal riding pillion when the incident took place near Veer Jijamata bus stop, the police said. Jain runs a medical store at Mankhurd while Jaiswal is a mechanic. "The two of them were heading towards Ghatkopar to buy medicines when the incident took place," said BB Rathod, senior police inspector of Chembur police station who has additional charge of the Tilak Nagar police station. "The dumper hit the two-wheeler from the left. Jaiswal was thrown away at a distance. However, Jain was crushed beneath its rear wheels."

Jain was rushed to Rajawadi hospital where the doctors declared him dead. An irate crowd broke the windshield of the dumper. Sharif Raffi Ahmed, 22, who was driving the vehicle escaped from the spot, but was later arrested from Deonar.
