The train, which was on its way from Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus to Mangalore Central, left Nilaje station and struck the dumper that was passing through the railway track.

“The dumper was going to Gaisar Village from Nilaje, when the accident took place. The driver sustained serious injuries to his hand and is admitted to Shivam Hospital, near Nilaje station,” said Vijay

Jagtap, Railway Police Force constable, who was present at the spot.

Officials said the train’s door and windows were smashed and it was halted for two hours at the crossing.
