MMRC managing director Sanjay Sethi said, “Appointment of the GC will pave way for the speedy implementation of Metro 3, as it will assist MMRC in design, supervision, quality control, safety and contract management of the project.” The consortium compromises AECOM Asia of Hong Kong, Padeco of Japan, LBG of USA and Egis Rail of France.
MMRC is a joint venture between Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, (MMRDA) the Central and state governments and will oversee the construction of the metro network in the city. The GC will have 26 experts for various fields like signalling, communication, environment and heritage, said Sethi.
Japan International Cooperation Agency is providing financial assistance amounting Rs13,235 crore for the Rs23,136 crore metro project. The overall scope of the GC is to assist in evaluation of bids for civil works, appoint the contractor, review and proof-check detailed designs prepared by the contractor’s designer with respect to work awarded on a ‘design-build’ basis, and supervise construction.
The tendering process for the 33.5km long Metro 3 is underway and it is expected to be completed by mid-2015. The process was delayed by almost a year following delay by the state government in forming a joint venture company.
