The housing authority has been bombarded with complaints of developers delaying the redevelopment despite getting all the permissions. The Mhada believes that the move would force a builder to undertake construction within a limited time or lose his NOC.

Raising the issue in the Mhada (Mumbai board) meeting, senior member Virendra Upadhyaya said: “Redevelopment in many places suffer as these builders tend to just sit with the certificate for years, leaving the residents in a lurch.” The board members pointed out cases in Tilak Nagar (Chembur), Sahakar Nagar (Chembur) and Kannamwar Nagar (Vikhroli) where residents have been waiting for the builder to start work for the past four years.

Amarjit Singh Manhas, chairman, Mhada, said: “This only delay matters and we tend to lose our quota of low-cost apartments in these colonies.”
