"We have got the requisite clearances from the Railways and we will now be completing the project by May next year," said S Nandgirikar, MMRDA chief engineer.

Flooding at Milan Subway in Vile Parle during the monsoon season has been a constant feature for the past three decades leading to massive traffic jams. Earlier, water pumps were used to pump out water from the area. But, an idea to build a railway over bridge was floated in 2007 and work began in January 2008, however, the project got stalled over rehabilitation issues and delay in acquiring permission from the Railways.

The estimated cost of the bridge, which will have two carriageways with each having two lanes connecting SV Road to the Western Express Highway’s service road, is Rs41.50 crore.
