The mob from the Reti Bunder slums nearby came out in large numbers after a four-year-old girl Asmita Shingare was run over by a Titwala local around 5 pm.

"Because of the blockade, train operations remained affected for more than 90 minutes between 5.35 and 6.51pm. At least 13 slow services in both directions were stuck. The slow services between Mulund and Diva were diverted on to the fast line," said V Chandrasekar, public relations officer (PRO), Central Railway.

Local Mumbra residents have been demanding a foot over-bridge at this location for a long time and have even proposed this to railway authorities.

"There is no other way we can cross the railway tracks at this location. Earlier, there was an old subway here but it is not in use now and we have requested them to either clean it or construct a foot over-bridge but have not received any reply from the authorities," said Nazima Sayed, Mumbra resident and Mumbai rail Pravasi Sangh vice president.

V Malegoankar Centra Railway chief public relations officer (CPRO) said, "FOBs are sanctioned at various places but they are prioritised by the divisional railway manager on the basis of requirement, safety hazard or where there is no foot over-bridge at all. Presently, a number of fobs are under construction in Mumbai. We have to seen whom the residents have sent the request for an FOB to."
