Former supermodel Viveka Babajee’s family has denied that the 37-year-old was depressed and claimed she and her friend, Gautam Vora, were in a relationship.
“Gautam and Viveka were in a relationship and were seriously considering marriage. In fact, they had even matched their horoscopes,” said Dale Bhagwagar, who addressed the media on behalf of Viveka’s family on Thursday.
The family has decided that it will rely on the investigation to decide whether or not to press charges against Vora. Viveka’s relatives said they were shocked to learn about Vora’s statement denying his relationship with Viveka.
“Viveka’s mother, Dayawanti Babajee, had spoken to Gautam after her daughter told her that he had proposed to her,” Bhagwagar said. “Viveka was very happy after meeting Gautam.”
The spokesperson said Viveka and her family never saw Vora in bad light.
He said Vora wanted Viveka to undergo a medical check-up to ensure that she could conceive. Viveka told her mother that Vora wanted to accompany her to the doctor, Bhagwagar said.
On June 23, two days before she committed suicide, Viveka had sent a text message to her mother in Mauritius saying, “Hi ma, have been shooting today. Had a good day. Just reached home. Hope you ok, my little fairy. Love you.”
Dayawanti called Viveka after she read the message and claimed that her daughter did not sound depressed, Bhagwagar said. Dayawanti said she also spoke to Vora, who was with Viveka that night, and found the couple to be happy.
Bhagwagar said Viveka’s status messages on social networking site, Facebook, indicated that she was in high spirits and happy, not depressed.
According to the family, after Viveka’s relationship with Rohit Jugraj ended when she “found that he was married” and she broke up with Kartik Jobanputra “who was using her contacts and connections for his business”, she was finally happy to meet a man [Vora] who was “very kind and soft spoken”.
A close friend of Viveka, who the model had authorised to access her email, is going through her inbox and chat history to see if she can find anything that would help solve the mystery behind her death.
