Mumbaiites will dance to bands from Pune, Satara

Though Bollywood tracks thumped across Ganesh mandals during the 10 days of festivities, Ganpati's journey to immersion points will be to the beats of dhols and strains of shehnai played by bands specially brought in from across the state.

“Dhol beats help pump up the tempo of the crowd,” said Siddesh Kolgaonkar, a member of the Ganesh Galli Mandal, which will have over 45 band members from Puneri 'dhol bands'.

With demand for traditional bands growing, Mansukh Rawat formed his own group, which brings together groups from outside the city. “The sound of the local bands cannot be compared with the traditional dholaks coming from Pune. They create magic,” said Rawat.
