Muslim youth fast for a cause in Ramzan

Since last three days, Shadab Haider, 31, has been breaking his Ramzan fast just with water and dates instead of the Ramzan delicacies that he usually has for break fast. The reason — he ,along with his group, has joined the fast at Azad Maidan for the Jan Lokpal bill.

“We are with Anna as he is fighting for all of us including Muslims,” said Haider. Sayyed Noor, an unemployed youth, said, “Anywhere I go for a job, they ask for money. At least now with the Lokpal bill, these people will be brought to book.”

With the holy month of Ramzan going on, they are fasting without even water from day break. The very thought of giving hard-earned money to corrupt officials angers Syed Inzamam Mehendi, 21, who works at a mobile shop. “We sweat all day while the corrupt enjoy at our expense,” said Mehendi.

Mohammad Haris, an interior decorator, said, “Our Prophet has given clear directions to fight all evils that includes corruption. Muslims are a part of this country and face the same problems as others. Some vested interests have spoilt their name.”
