After local residents spotted the boy, he was taken to Rajawadi Hospital and his condition is vastly improved.

According to an officer from the Vikhroli police station, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media, “The incident came to light on Thursday morning around 8 am, when some locals found the baby boy wrapped in a piece of cloth on a pavement along the Vikhroli service road leading to Airoli. The locals took the baby to Mahatma Phule hospital nearby and informed the police.”

Senior inspector, SB Gaikwad, of Vikhroli police said, “We have registered a case under Section 317 (abandoning a child below 12 years of age by parents or person taking care of it) of the IPC, against unknown persons. We will be checking hospitals and clinics in the area to find out about women who gave birth three days ago. Investigations are on.”
