Plastic surgeon Dr Kalpesh Gajjiwala, who was handling Barua's case at Saifee Hospital, said on Tuesday that he would not be performing the surgery on Barua. "I will not be handling Bidhan's case any more. He has not met me yet but I will inform him," Dr Gajjiwala told HT.

Ejaz Naqvi, Barua's lawyer, said his client was unaware of the cancellation. "They can't suddenly cancel it. We will mention it in the high court on Wednesday," said Naqvi.

Saifee Hospital administration said that Barua had opted for a different hospital. "We do not conduct these kinds of surgeries normally," said Dr SJ Bapai, assistant director, PR and government administration, Saifee Hospital.
