Seniors beat up law student in Pune

One of the country’s prominent law colleges — ILS Law College — is investigating an alleged case of ragging.

One of the country’s prominent law colleges — ILS Law College — is investigating an alleged case of ragging. A second-year student was reportedly beaten up by his seniors on Friday and a Kenyan student suffered minor injuries.

The college administration however said the incident was a result of personal rivalry. Yogesh Jaybhaye in his compliant to college authorities, said the seniors who could not clear an exam for two years, beat him for not following their instructions.

Later, a Kenyan student, Kevin Wanyonyi too submitted his version to the authorities saying he had suffered minor injuries when he tried to intervene. But on Sunday, he withdrew his compliant saying he has “no issues” with anyone. Principal Vaijayanti Joshi said, “Inquiry has revealed it’s a case of personal rivalry. We will act against the students once the inquiry is over.”
