SIES student drowns in Karjat during picnic

A 21-year-old from Nerul, Jobin Nainan, was swept away by heavy currents in Ulhas river near Karjat during a picnic on July 29. His body was fished out on Tuesday evening, two days after the incident.

A 21-year-old from Nerul, Jobin Nainan, was swept away by heavy currents in Ulhas river near Karjat during a picnic on July 29. His body was fished out on Tuesday evening, two days after the incident.

The second year BCom student from SIES, Nerul, had gone to Ulhas river along with six of his friends from Panchgani.

According to his friends, Nainan was swept away by the strong currents in the river while swimming.

The police found his body 12 kilometres away from the incident on Tuesday evening.

After the parent’s identified the body, it was brought to Mumbai on Wednesday. The family plans to take the body to Kerala for the final rites.

Sherin Mathew, a family friend said, “Jobin is survived by his parents and an elder brother. We still can’t believe that he is no more.”

Ulhas river, which originates near Karjat in the western ghats range, is known for its strong currents.
