He announced at the city’s premier JJ School of Fine Arts.
The university will regulate courses in commercial and applied arts, photography, painting, animation, web designing run by fine arts schools, and music, dance and dramatics courses run by specialised institutes.
The state runs the prime fine arts colleges in the state while some others are run by private trust and education societies.
The new university will bring all these colleges under one umbrella. It will prepare a common syllabus for all institutes, conduct examinations, award degrees and streamline administration.
Presently, these colleges report to different universities.
The state is expected to enact a new law to establish technical education and fine arts universities in the forthcoming Budget session of the state legislature that begins next month.
