In a letter written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Kamat pointed out that the state had neglected security in the city. "After the 2008 attacks,

the precautions meant to be taken were ignored. We have to admit that it was negligence on part of the government," said Kamat while sharing details of the letter.

Speaking at a function in Jogeshwari, Kamat pointed to the failure of the state government to procure patrol boats, and build coastal police stations.
