“It is not possible to get inmates together due to swine flu threat,” said jail officials.

“I wrote to the jail authorities that we would hold the exam,” said lawyer and human rights activist Asim Sarode. “They replied that the exam could not be held as prisoners faced threat of swine flu.”

Sarode said the proposal to show movies — Lage Raho Munnabhai, Bapu Ne Kaha Tha and Do Ankhe Barah Hath — was also rejected. “We have stopped all programmes in jails due to swine flu. We just take inmates to court and hospitals as it is unavoidable,” said jail Superintendent SV Khatavkar.
