The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has decided to re-survey all buildings in the city and update its list of dangerous and extremely-dangerous structures.
The corporation has also finalised the policy for Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) rental homes for which the rent will be Rs2,500 a month.
This will allow those living in dangerous buildings to be rehabilitated immediately.
Acting civic commissioner Shyamsunder Patil said apart from re-surveying the buildings, a search and rescue team at par with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will also be formed in Thane and will be trained by the NDRF.
It was after the June 21 building collapse in Mumbra that a special general body meeting was held to finalise the policy of MMRDA’s rental homes.
At the meeting, it was decided that the rent for these homes would be Rs2,500 for a month and would be leased out for 11 months.
Political parties have also decided to appeal to the CM to introduce cluster redevelopment.

Thus, members of political parties have decided to appeal to the chief minister to introduce cluster development at the earliest.
“A Global Positioning System survey of the slums is underway. We will also carry out wardwise survey of dangerous and extremely-dangerous buildings We have also requested the principal secretary to speed up the process of allotting us BSUP homes,” said Patil.
Patil also added that the police would take action against people refusing to move.
“As per the recommendations of the members of the general body, I will also request MMRDA to decrease the rent,” he said.
