“Those who are opposing the ban and questioning it are pseudo intellectuals,” Patil told HT in an interview. “Will they say the same thing if a bar comes up in their building or one of their relatives wants to become a bar dancer?”

The minister also criticised bar owners for not providing social security to the women employed with them.

Claiming that they weren’t giving up. Patil said the government was consulting renowned lawyers on their next course of action, and a report will be submitted in the legislature.

Meanwhile, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan took a cautious stand on Friday saying the government would consider all options.
