When the accused kept making excuses and did not return the money, Salve approached the police who arrested the accused. Police arrested two persons, while the third, the kingpin, is on the run.
Sandeep Tiwari, 19, and Mehboob Shaikh, 23, along with the third man met Salve, an engineering student in Nashik, when he came to the city in October to meet his parents.
They told Salve they could double money and gained his trust after returning the initial instalment he gave them, said an officer from the Trombay police requesting anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
Salve who fell for the trick took gold worth Rs 1.8 lakh worth of his mother’s ornaments. “After that whenever Salve asked for the money he had given the accused, they fobbed him off with excuses”, said senior inspector S Khaire from Trombay police station.
Following this, a complaint was registered at the Trombay police who investigated the matter and arrested the two accused.
