Thane consumers will now pay three paisa more per unit for the usage. Initially, when MERC had approved the scheme for Thane city it did not include Kalwa and Mumbra as these regions had more transmission and distribution losses.
However, MERC has rejected the state’s plan to have zero power cuts in the district headquarters citing acute power shortage. The state-owned power distribution firm Mahavitaran now faces a shortfall of more than 6,000 mega watts and so enforces power cuts ranging between three and 16 hours. It had proposed to the zero power cut scheme for district headquarters as the scheme is running successfully at divisional headquarters.
