Delhi International Jazz Festival: jazz by the way

The heavy metal band Megadeath made Delhiites headbang in October last year and Snoop Lion made everyone sway to his rap early this year. The city is now warming up to Delhi International Jazz Festival that kicked off yesterday.

The heavy metal band Megadeath made Delhiites headbang in October last year and Snoop Lion made everyone sway to his rap early this year. The city is now warming up to Delhi International Jazz Festival that kicked off yesterday. In its third year, the festival is being organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and features 10 bands from 10 countries and four bands from India.

Metal-band-Megadeth

One of the largest jazz festivals in the country, the four-day long the event is taking place at Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri.

“Every major city, be it Montreal, London, Stockholm or Edinburgh, has a world class jazz festival that is not only named after the city but almost defines its cultural ethos. With this festival, Delhi has become part of this list too. The festival is a gift to the Capital from our side,” said Suresh Goel,
director general, ICCR.

The festival is looking to put Delhi jazz on the world map and will have performances from bands such as New Bone Quintet Band (Poland), Sindi & Mimi (South Africa), Ararat (Israel), Imany (France) and Malcom Braff Trio (Switzerland).

US-based musician Sachal Vasandani, who performs tomorrow, says he is super excited about his performance. “I’m looking forward to
celebrating good music with the people of Delhi. I hope we can share a moment of beauty together. I’ve never performed at the Indian jazz festival. So I am very excited,” he says.

Delhiites too are equally excited about the event. “I love listening to jazz and to have musicians from all over world come here and perform this music style live is great,” says Sushant Khurana, an 18-year-old Delhi University student.
