“Poetry unites across cultures like nothing else. It empowers us to serve our beautiful language. We want to present the diversity in the practice of Urdu verse and its now global richness,” says Kamna Prasad of Jashn-e-Bahar Trust, the organiser. As a first, poet Hiroji Kataoka from Japan will also be participating this year. “In fact, we’ve invited three foreign poets whose madari zabaan (mother tongue) is not Urdu. This speaks for the new frontiers Urdu is exploring,” she adds.
The list of participating poets includes Kishwar Naheed and Harris Khalique (Islamabad), Max Bruce (Austin) and Omar Salim Al Aidroos (Jeddah).
