Pritam recreates RD Burman’s cabaret song
Though the soundtrack of the film hasn’t been released yet, it’s rumoured that Pritam has recreated one of RD Burman’s cabaret songs from the Rajesh Khanna-Mumtaaz film, Apna Desh.music Updated: May 29, 2010 19:17 IST
The song in question has been picturised on Gauhar Khan and is touted to be one of the costliest cabaret songs ever. Pritam admits that he has reworked RD Burman’s song, but on the lines of Apni to jaise taise from Sajid Khan’s recent release, Housefull.
"I have retained the first two lines of the song but the rest of it is different. There are new lyrics. The opening may sound like the old song but overall, it’s is a new one altogether," he adds.
On Imtiaz Ali and Rockstar
Buzz is that the composer is mighty upset about the fact that good friend Imtiaz Ali has signed on AR Rahman for his next, Rockstar, with Ranbir Kapoor.
When asked, Pritam denies having any issues whatsoever. "Imtiaz was supposed to make this film with John Abraham for UTV many years ago. Back then, he had roped in Rahman to compose the soundtrack for it. The film didn’t move after a point. Now, when it’s being shot, there was no way that Imtiaz would have roped me in. Rahman has already done a lot on the score. I wouldn’t have liked to step into his shoes because it’s very unprofessional," Pritam states.
On doing a single track for Raajneeti
Pritam, who, self-admittedly, doesn’t work on a single track for any movie’s soundtrack, has composed just one track for Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti.
When asked the reason, he says that he did it only because of his past relations with Prakash Jha. “Prakashji really wanted a couple of us to compose a song each for his film. Sony, the music company, wanted me to compose too.
“So, I put Bheegi si bhaagi si for Prakashji. Shantanu Moitra and Aadesh Srivastava have put together one song each. My song has been received well. I have no reason to complain, but I don’t want to make this one-song on an album a practice,” asserts Pritam
