He is an Oscar winner (for Slumdog Millionaire; 2008) and one of the most respected contemporary music composers. So when AR Rahman has a word of appreciation for a singer, it means a lot. At a recent awards show, he had more than a compliment for actor-and singer Priyanka Chopra.
When asked if he would give the actor an opportunity to sing one of his compositions, he said, “Rather, she needs to give me one (a job).”
Priyanka had earlier been called on to the stage to present Rahman with the Best Indie Video award for his album, Infinite Love. She herself won the Best Video Music Icon Of The Year award.
At the moment, Rahman is dividing his time between his Indian and overseas projects. He confirms that work on Shekhar Kapur’s much-delayed film, Paani, is underway. He says he has started working on the music, though it is at a nascent stage.
“I’m doing Paani with Shekhar Kapur and the film is finally happening,” says Rahman. Kapur’s film had been stuck for over a decade before Yash Raj Films decided to produce it earlier this year.
