RDB remixes Sridevi’s Chandni o meri Chandni... for upcoming film, UK-based band looking for a pad in Delhi to move closer to Bollywood.music Updated: Jan 21, 2012 19:13 IST
Chandni O Meri Chandni… the chartbuster from Yash Chopra’s Chandni (1989) has been remixed by UK-based band RDB for Sameer Karnik’s rom-com, Char Din Ki Chandni.
Tusshar Kapoor and Kulraj Randhawa will be dancing to the tunes that Rishi Kapoor and Sridevi had grooved to 13 years ago.
The song that turned Sridevi into a singer has been re-recorded with singers Parichay and Sunidhi Chauhan, and comes with a Chandani RDB House Version, sung by Parichay and Nindy Kaur, for clubs.
“We have a saying in the west that if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it. So like we had done with the Yamla Pagla Deewana title track last year, we’ve built on the rhythm, ‘dhols’ and bass, giving the original song the RDB flavour,” explains Surj, a band member.
He asserts that the legal formalities were cleared before the song came to their studios “I’m told that Yash Raj Films has heard our version and liked it.”
Surj and his brothers and band members, Kuly and Manj, along with Parichay and Nindy, are favourites with Akshay Kumar, for whom they’ve composed Rafta rafta… (Namaste London, 2007), Singh is Kinng… (Singh Is Kinng, 2008), Om mangalam… (Kambakkht Ishq, 2009), Paisa paisa… (De Dana Dan, 2009) and Shera dil kaum…(Speedy Singhs, 2010). More outings with Akshay or the Deols soon? Surj laughs, “You never know when RDB will strike.”
They were recently introduced to Salman Khan at the Colors Petal Awards who was appreciative of their music. Encouraged by Bollywood’s interest, Surj says RDB is willing to create more party anthems.
Given that their fan base is growing in India, the band is looking to buy a pad in Delhi. Says Surj, “We want to get closer to our listeners and some day, we’d like to remix Sholay’s (1975) Yeh dosti…”
