Despite the poor lyrics and the outrageous visuals, Taher Shah continues to amuse and entertain Pakistan.

According to one reviewer “Lo and behold! Taher Shah is here to save the day for one last time. In this picture that surfaced on social media yesterday and the song Angel that made its way to the internet in the wee hours of Saturday morning, there’s a fairy, or an angel as the lyrics suggest, donning a purple velvet cloak walking in a prairie. Never before have I seen an angel with chest hair, holding a smaller version of itself in its hands.”

The reviewer adds “If you tell me that Angel is just another song then I will tell you that you’re a liar. It is the seed of an idea; a glimmer of hope from which intellectual mileage can be drawn. I pondered over Angel with all my reasoning powers and arrived at the conclusion that Taher Shah is a phenomenon that simply cannot be grasped.”

Despite the poor lyrics and the outrageous visuals, Taher Shah continues to amuse and entertain Pakistan. “The fact that he can’t sing and his videos suck is besides the point,” says Momina Sabtain, chief editor of an arts magazine. Taher’s claim to fame “Eyes” was about how he had eyes for someone and how he used them to the best of his abilities. The video focused on the eyes, which also changed colour.

Over two years ago, pop sensation Taher Shah’s Eyes video swept across the country. Within days he was everywhere. This time round again Taher has not disappointed. “Given that Pakistanis have few occasions to bond and laugh, now that our cricket team has no hope of winning anything, Taher Shah is our saviour,” tweeted Talat Aslam, a music reviewer and journalist.
