Harlequin baby dies two days after birth

NAGPUR: The Harlequin baby, who was put on oxygen on Monday morning, passed away at the Lata Mangeshkar Medical College and Hospital in the evening. A 23-year-old woman from Amravati in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra had given birth to the baby girl, weighing 1.8kg with a severe congenital disorder called Harlequin Ichthyosis, on Saturday. The baby was covered with hardened, cracked skin and her internal organs were visible. She was put on a ventilator but could not survive.
