17-year-old student assaulted in Ghaziabad, found hanging later

Police said three boys of the same locality had snatched a watch belonging to the victim, a student at a Delhi school. He was thrashed when he demanded that they return it.

A 17-year-old Class 10 student was found hanging at his room in Ghaziabad after he was allegedly assaulted by three boys who snatched his watch, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred at Archna Enclave in Khoda municipality on Sunday night. Three boys of the same locality had snatched a watch belonging to the victim, a student at a Delhi school. He was thrashed when he demanded that they return it, said Ghaziabad assistant superintendent of police Ravi Kumar.

They allegedly assaulted his mother too when she reached the spot to intervene. When she returned home after filing a complaint, she found her son hanging from a ceiling fan in his room, Kumar said.

The three accused have been detained for interrogation, the police officer said, adding that cause of the teenager’s death could be ascertained after a post-mortem examination.
