59-year-old allegedly duped of flat by second wife who ‘dumped him’ a month after marriage

The man, a businessman from Gaya, said his second wife insisted on buying a house in Noida as she didn’t want to live in Bihar.

A 59-year-old businessman from Gaya claimed that he was duped of ₹42 lakh that he invested in a flat and registered it in the name of his second wife, who allegedly dumped him within a month of their marriage. The victim has filed for divorce and also approached the court, seeking action against his wife, her son and daughter and her two brothers.

Based on the court’s direction, Bisrakh police have booked them under sections 406, Section 420, Section 120-B, Section 504 and Section 506 of the IPC.

The man, Naval Kishore Sharma (59) of Gaya in Bihar, manages a plywood business there. “My first wife died in 2015, and I started feeling lonely. Later, I consulted my children and they advised me to get married a second time,” he said.

Sharma considered this a good idea and placed an advertisement on a matrimonial website. A 25-year-old man contacted Sharma with a proposal for his mother. The woman, a widow, had two children – a son and a daughter — from her first marriage. He said he liked the woman and also travelled with her to different cities at his expense. Sharma said his second wife insisted on buying a house in Noida as she didn’t want to live in Bihar.

“I agreed to her demands and bought a flat in a high-rise society for ₹42 lakh. But soon she stopped talking to me and started being rude to me. I also found her chatting with others,” he said. The man and his wife were separated within a month. He said after the local police refused to register his complaint, he moved the court.

Meanwhile, Sunil, the woman’s brother, alleged that her sister was subjected to cruelty by Sharma which later led to the separation of the two.

“My sister gave her jewellery and cash to buy the flat in Greater Noida West. Sharma started beating my sister which led to their separation. We have also filed a police complaint against him in Delhi,” he said.

Manoj Kumar Pathak, SHO, Bisrakh, said based on a complaint, a case was registered. “We are investigating the matter from all angles,” he said.
