According to the data, among the districts having over 23,000 positive cases in Uttar Pradesh, only Prayagraj has better recovery rate of 95.93% than that of GB Nagar. In terms of case fatality rate (CFR), GB Nagar’s CFR of 0.35% is the best among the seven districts having over 20,000 cases.

Among the districts of Meerut division, GB Nagar’s CFR of 0.35% (83 deaths among 23,170 cases) is the lowest. While Ghaziabad’s CFR is 0.39% (93 in 23,551), Baghpat has 1.52% (30 deaths in 1,968 cases), Bulandshahr 1.54% (86 in 5,580), Hapur 1.62% (64 in 3,948) and Meerut has CFR of 2.10% (412 in 19,590).

GB Nagar district magistrate Suhas LY said that early and timely tracking and providing adequate treatment are the main goals before the administration. “Despite having adequate beds for Covid-19 patients, all private and government hospitals have been asked to increase the number of beds in their intensive care units (ICU) and high dependency units (HDU),” he said.

The DM also said that further spread of viral infection can’t be ruled out. “But, our focus is on reducing the number of deaths and curing the maximum number of infected patients possible on time. For that, we have adapted the ‘tracking, testing and treating’ methodology in which we are ensuring maximum contact tracing, testing nearly 4,000 people every day and treating infected patients as per symptoms. While recovery rate in GB Nagar has gone over 95%, the case fatality rate (CFR) is only 0.35%, which is much better than the state’s overall CFR of 1.43%,” Suhas said.

District chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Deepak Ohri said that to avert any chance of surge, the health department has increased the contact tracing and testing, especially in high-risk areas, from where more cases are being reported.
