Six members of a gang, including a Delhi Police head constable, were arrested by the Noida team of Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) after an encounter in Greater Noida on Tuesday evening. STF sleuths have also seized two sports utility vehicles, including a bulletproof SUV, in which the gang members were travelling.
The STF sleuths also seized two SUVS, including the bulletproof one in which the gang members were travelling.
The Delhi Police head constable has been identified as Jagat Singh Nagar, of Dankaur, who is currently posted at Daryaganj Crime Branch in New Delhi.
The other arrested were identified as Pawan Baghpur alias Pawan Nagar of Baghpur village in Dankaur; Jeetu alias Jitendra of Imaliya village in Greater Noida; Kamal of Dankaur; Vinod Singh of Bharatpur (Rajasthan); and Chandan Kumar Sharma of Sitamarhi (Bihar).
According to STF officials, Nagar and the other arrested men belong to Pawan Baghpur-manoj Imaliya gang, who have several cases of murder and extortion registered against them in Greater Noida.
The STF is probing how the gang managed to procure authorisation for a bulletproof vehicle, which is mandatory from the ministry of home affairs.
“Acting on a tip-off, the STF team nabbed six persons belonging to Pawan Baghpur-manoj Imaliya gang in an encounter near Police Lines in Ecotech 3 area of Greater Noida on Tuesday. They were travelling in two SUVS — one Fortuner and a bulletproof Scorpio. One suspect, Manoj Imaliya, managed to flee. We have arrested Pawan and other five persons, including a Delhi cop,” Raj Kumar Mishra, additional superintendent of police, UP STF, said.
Mishra said the arrested men had been active for the past one decade, and they have dozens of cases of murder, extortion and loot registered against them. Pawan alone has 18 cases of murder, attempt to murder, loot, extortion and abduction registered against him in Greater Noida, the STF official added.
Police have also seized one licensed revolver, two countrymade pistols, live ammunition and 30 grams of brown sugar from them.
About the bulletproof SUV, Mishra said, “The bulletproof vehicle was registered in 2016 in the name of Azad Imaliya. We are currently investigating as to how they got the approval of the home affairs ministry and where the vehicle modification was done.”
The STF said the gang members needed a bulletproof vehicle in the wake of a recent turf war between their gang and Anil Dujana gang.
“Both Pawan and Manoj are relatives and they earlier used to work for gangster Sundar Bhati. After a recent spat, they formed their own gang, and their top rival is Anil Dujana. The gang members needed bulletproof vehicles for obvious security purposes,” Mishra said.
Explaining the role of Delhi cop, Mishra said, “Nagar used his clout as a policeman to get construction related contracts to the friendlies of their gang. He was carrying a licensed revolver at the time of his arrest, but the weapon’s licence had lapsed in 2016. We have booked him under the Arms Act.”
