The police said that the driver of the SUV, a Tata Safari, was heavily drunk and also sustained multiple injuries.

The incident took place around 8pm, barely 2km from busy Raj Nagar Extension crossing. Indirapuram’s Naveen Kumar rammed the i-10 car driven by Arvind Goel, who was on way back home to Murad Nagar along with his wife and three children.

“After being hit from behind, Goel lost control over the car and hit the road divider. All the car’s occupants received injuries. Goel was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead. Kumar’s car also hit the driver and fell on the other side of the road,” said Avnish Dixit, station house officer, Sihani Gate police station.

Sources said the SUV also hit another car coming from the other side. But the other car suffered minor damages only since the SUV had slowed down after hitting the driver.

“Kumar, who hails from Dehradun, was heavily drunk. He lives in Indirapuram. We have taken him under custody and sent him for a medical examination and treatment as he also suffered multiple injuries,” Dixit said.

Officials said that Goel is a property dealer. He came to Ghaziabad for shopping at a mall in Mohan Nagar. His son was later referred to a multi-specialty hospital in Ghaziabad for treatment, sources said.
