The event — 27 saal UP behaal — was a part of the Congress campaign for the upcoming assembly elections.

“In the last 27 years, many regimes changed in UP. But UP remained the same and residents did not get basic facilities. Time has come for the residents to wipe out the parties that have fooled them over the years and elect Congress party to power,” said UP state Congress chief Raj Babbar.

Babbar said that all parties that ruled UP in last 20 years have used Noida as an ATM machine to mint money. Former Union minister and AICC general Secretary (Incharge UP) Salman Khurshid started his speech by expressing his condolences for the 17 soldiers who died during a terrorist attack at Uri area of Jammu and Kashmir.

He attacked the ruling Samajwadi Party for poor law and order situation and the Bharatiya Janata Party for playing communal politics.

“In the regime of the current government, the law and order situation in UP is continuously deteriorating. The government is entangled in inside fighting and is not focusing on the situation. Other parties are taking advantage of the situation and polarising the voters on communal issues. Hindus and Muslims are equal. UP residents have a better option in the upcoming election — to vote Congress to power,” Khurshid said.

Khurshid said that the Congress will convert a ‘behaal’ (in bad shape) UP to a ‘bemisaal’ (incredible) UP.

“The kind of development the Congress party brought to the country is desperately required in UP. Time has come for UP residents to choose Congress for better governance,” Khurshid said.

The party, which is struggling to mark its presence in the UP assembly elections since last 27 years, is now focusing on the urban voters in Noida. The leaders asked the party workers to reach out to urban voters and also try to break into the traditional vote banks of other regional parties.

“The Congress is the only party that never indulges in caste or communal politics. Our agenda is to work for each community equally,” Babbar said.
