Nearly a dozen young men on half-a-dozen bikes followed the car driven by a 21-year-old BPharma student for nearly 5km before unleashing a brutal attack on the driver at Govindpuram locality on Friday night. It all started with the victim’s car brushing against a bike followed by an apology. But it ended with him getting nearly 35 stitches on his face.
The Kavi Nagar police have lodged an FIR for attempt to murder, rioting, attempted abduction, causing voluntarily hurt and hurting by means of instruments. According to the family of the victim, Nadeem, he was driving back to Ghaziabad in his Hyundai i10 after appearing for his BPharma final year examination at his college in Murad Nagar on Friday when the incident took place.
“His car brushed past one of the bikes of the gang at Raj Nagar District Centre (RDC) and my son apologised and drove to Sector-10 Raj Nagar market to have some food. His friend was also in the car. Later, the men on bikes followed them and also called up their accomplices. When my son went to Govindpuram for some work, he stopped the car and asked his friend to fetch a water bottle from a shop. Suddenly, the bikers appeared and surrounded the car. My son locked himself in the car,” said Mohammad Saiduddin, Nadeem’s father.
“The bikers broke the car’s window glass and pulled him out before beating him severely. His friend ran away. The bikers had come armed with rods, other weapons and unleashed a brutal attack, leaving my son with 35 stitches,” he said.
In the complaint given to Kavi Nagar police station, Nadeem also stated that he was attacked with some sharp-edged weapon and one of the bikers also fired at him .
“They also tried to take me away in my car to harm me. The information about the incident was flashed to the police by my friend by then,” he said in his complaint.
The police said that three young men on bikes, who led the attack on the victim, have been identified.
“The bikers are college students and not professional criminals. They indulged in some verbal altercation initially and brought others along others to attack the victim. We have lodged the FIR under appropriate sections and a hunt is on to arrest the accused,” said Hemant Rai, station house officer, Kavi Nagar police station.
