Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s wife, Dr Anjali, received the registration papers of a 3,150 sq feet flat in Crescent Court tower at a Jaypee Greens project in Greater Noida, a Delhi suburb, on Wednesday .
The Greater Noida authority said realty firm Jaypee Group had allotted this flat valued at Rs 1.68 crore to the cricket legend in 2010. The flat is located on the 21st floor of the residential tower, near the 18-hole Jaypee golf course in the heart of Greater Noida, an emerging realty hub.
Anjali spent only 10 minutes at the Greater Noida registry department, but the staff did not miss the opportunity of clicking pictures with her.
“We had completed most of the paperwork in advance. It took her only 10-5 minutes to complete the registration formalities. Our staff was happy to serve Anjali,” said Mukesh Yadav, sub-registrar at stamp and registration office in Greater Noida.
Officials of the Greater Noida authority and the staff of Jaypee Group chose to execute the registry in the morning to escape the afternoon rush.
“There are few buyers in the office in the morning. Had she come in the afternoon, she would have been mobbed,” said Yadav, who also got a picture clicked with her.
This is not the first time that a cricketer has bought property in Greater Noida.
“Former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev also bought a flat in Jaypee Greens in 2011. Later, bowler RP Singh purchased a flat in a government society,” said a Greater Noida authority official.
The Greater Noida authority officials and realty experts say celebrities buying property in an area boost the buyers’ sentiment. The rate for a flat in the area ranges from Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000 per square foot.
“People like Sachin buying properties in the area will boost the city’s brand,” said Honey Katiyal, a realty consultant and founder CEO of Investors Clinic, a Noida-based consulting firm.
