While the robbers managed to flee, car driver Kailash Sharma, who was shot in the left hand, was rushed to hospital by the police.

Sharma (30) works for a news channel in Noida. He lives in Bhangel and was returning home after dropping office staff when the incident took place around 2.30am.

“While returning from work, I stopped at Labour Chowk to eat paranthas. It was there that two persons approached me for a lift to the Sector 12-22 intersection and I agreed. As we crossed the Sector 57 intersection, they pulled out a gun and asked me to stop the car. They forced me out of the vehicle and a fight broke out between us. They then shot me in the hand,” said Sharma.

Nearly five minutes later, a police control room vehicle saw an injured Sharma on the road and rushed him to a nearby hospital.

Tracking the GPS device installed in the car, the police traced its location near Dadri and surrounded the area. After being chased by the police for some time, the robbers deserted the car.

Ravi Kant Parashar, station house officer, Sector 58 station, said three assailants were seen fleeing the car.

“When Kailash was attacked in Sector 57, there were only two robbers. But when we chased them near Dadri, we saw three persons fleeing. We think a third accomplice must have joined them later. We are still investigating the case,” Parashar said.
