At the Balaknath intersection, two U-turns have been created to streamline traffic and reduce driving on the wrong side, especially for those vehicles that come from the Sector 71 intersection and take right to drive on the wrong side to enter Sarfabad village, blocking traffic.

The Balaknath intersection is important as it connects several important areas of Noida, Greater Noida and also leads to the elevated road that further goes towards Delhi.

“This is a T-point that sees heavy traffic during peak hours. By blocking the median and creating U-turns, we are trying to make the movement of vehicles smoother,” Anil Kumar Jha, superintendent of police (traffic), said.

“Also, this will help reduce driving on the wrong side, which is rampant there,” the senior officer added.

He added that other measures are also being taken to decongest the intersection by suggesting alternative routes to residents. Signages are also being put up to direct commuters towards other roads.

For those coming from Sector 121 and areas around it and going towards the elevated road, signboards will be placed at a turn before reaching the Balaknath intersection.

Those coming from Greater Noida, Sector 121/122 and other neighbouring areas and going towards elevated road, can take right before reaching Balaknath intersection and can avoid traffic at this point.

These commuters can take the Dharampal Satyapal road and cross Cleo County and DS Group office to head towards the elevated road and further towards Delhi.

“For those coming from Greater Noida and Parthala Chowk, the alternative route is much faster and almost signal-free to reach the elevated road. However, not many are aware of it. We have asked the authority officials to help us with placing signages for making this road commuter friendly,” the superintendent of police for traffic said.

Meanwhile, the traffic police department is planning other diversions at smaller intersections that remain congested, especially during the peak evening hours. Some of the areas that may see diversions to decongest them include Film City, Electronic City intersection, Sector 71, Sector 62/63 road and Sector 59 road.
