The Indian worked her angles beautifully as Fitriani struggled to work around and even as Sindhu did commit few errors which allowed her opponent to close the gap to 12-18.

However, the gap was too far to bridge as the Hyderabad-girl took the first set 21-14.

And then there was no letting up, she carried the momentum into the second game and sprinted away to take the early lead.

She targeted the corners and this was a brilliant tactic as Fitriani struggled to keep pace and kept falling behind. She even struggled with the high clears as errors crept in from her racquet even as Sindhu ran away to 17-7.

The match lasted for 35 minutes and it was a great learning curve for young Fitriani who stuggled to match the intensity or skills of Sindhu.

She has moved into the pre-quarter-finals where she will in all likelihood face the ninth seed Sung Ji Hyun for a place in the quarter-finals.
