Bihar government has recommended a CBI probe into the assault on journalists by JD(U) MLA Anant Singh and his accomplices in Patna.

"The state government has asked CBI to take up investigation into not only the alleged rape and murder of Reshma Khatoon but also the attack on journalists at the residence of Anant Singh," Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah told PTI.

The comunication requesting a CBI probe was sent to the Centre late on Thursday night, Amanullah said.

An inquiry by journalists into the alleged rape and killing of the woman had led to the attack on a reporter and camera person of private news channel NDTV 24X7 and another reporter of TV news agency ANI at the MLA's Mall Road residence in the VIP zone of the city yesterday.

The legislator's involvement is alleged in the woman's rape and suspected murder. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had yesterday said the state home secretary had been asked to recommend a CBI probe into it.

A woman's body recovered from a place near Shastri Nagar police station in the state capital on Wednesday could not be identified by the police as nobody came forward to claim it.

A letter purportedly written by Reshma Khatoon was despatched to various TV channels claiming that she was raped by the MLA and his associates Mukesh Singh and Bipin Singh.

Later a man, who identified himself as Reshma's brother Munna had called up NDTV to inform that she had been killed and her body dumped by the roadside in Shastri Nagar.

The antecedents of Reshma and Munna were not known.
