District magistrate, Bandana Preyasi confirmed the incident and said that the BTMC was enquiring into the matter.

President of Bodh Gaya hotel association, Jay Singh who had played an important role in planting of saplings, expressed his surprise at the saplings having been uprooted despite the presence of the security guards of the Bodh Gaya temple management committee round the clock.

Jay Singh said, “There is the apprehension that the saplings were either uprooted or allowed to die a natural death without care. But no FIR has been lodged so far. No BTMC functionary could be contacted for their comment."
